Voluntary Arts Week Launch 2013

Saturday the 11th of May was a fortuitous fruitful day for the arts in Falkirk, with the launch of two art festivals dedicated to showcasing the talents of amateur arts and crafts groups within the Falkirk District.

Voluntary arts week is an annual week long celebration of arts and crafts activities throughout the United Kingdom and Republic in Ireland, last year saw Falkirk play host to the national launch of Voluntary Arts Week 12, with the help of Voluntary Arts Ambassador Falkirk, Craig Allan this feat was continued, making sure Falkirk is at the forefront of promoting participation in the voluntary arts. Taking place on Falkirk High Street, art groups were invited to take set up a stall, demonstrate their skills and promote their groups activities with the intention of raising the awareness of local groups and fundamentally how fun arts and crafts groups are.

Joining Voluntary Arts Week this year were - Falkirk Bohemians, Larbert's Wee Art Group, Falkirk Festival Chorus, Tryst Orchestra, Classic Music Live, Denny WASP and Fierce Valley, showcasing and sharing a wide range of practical skills from felt making to the rules of roller derby. Further events by these groups can be found on the What's On section of [Untitled].

Poor weather conditions resulted in an average turn out but the event can still be marked as a success as many of the groups encountered potential new group members, volunteers and a wider audience, as well as networking with established and new local art groups. Created entirely for free on every level Voluntary Arts Week in Falkirk continues to deliver a high standard and successful events promoting self led initiatives.
