Tryst Theatre - Bouncers

Bouncers
Tryst Theatre

An international smash-hit comedy is returning to Larbert after a twenty-two year absence.

Described as “outrageous five-star X-rated hilarity”, Bouncers by John Godber is the tale of one Friday night in a Northern nightclub, with the non-stop action focusing on the exploits of the four thuggish doormen and their drunken customers.

Tryst Theatre first performed the multi award-winning play in the old Larbert High School in 1992 and have decided to bring it back to the town’s Dobbie Hall in December...with two of the four actors reprising their original roles!

Jim Allan and Alan Clark once again take on the parts of Lucky Eric and Les while Brian Paterson and Brian Tripney join them as Ralph and Judd.

In the tatty glamour, loud music and flashing lights of the seedy club we meet the smooth-talking DJ, the lager-swilling lads, the lipsticked, lacquered girls, the late-night kebab man and many more – in all the four actors play over fifty different characters!

In one of the funniest scenes the audience will split their sides as the four men sit down to watch a blue movie...which then decides to run backwards.

The play has been staged all over the world and has collected its share of celebrity fans – Steven Spielberg, Jack Nicholson and Sean Connery have all raved about it, with Connery apparently interested in making it into a film.

Bouncers should be like watching four stand-up comedians as they all have so many fabulous one-liners,” reckons Jim Allan who also directs.

“It’s an outrageous parody of Saturday Night Fever but although the play is very funny, underneath it’s actually quite pathetic.

“As it says in the opening of the play, "all human life is here" - it's a midnight circus.

“Fast, frantic and fantastically funny, Bouncers will be a hoot and perfect for a dark December night,” insisted Jim.

Bouncers, which has strong language, will be staged in Larbert’s Dobbie Hall from December 8-10 at 7.30pm nightly. Tickets - £10 and £7 (concessions) - are available from the Tryst 24-hour booking line on 07597 981 949 or from the Box Office on 01324 715886.
